Aptalon Water-Borne Polyurethane Dispersions

Aptalon™ Polyamide Technologies

Aptalon™ polyamide polyurethanes bring a new range of performance to coatings, particularly for water-borne technologies. The technology offers a new platform for resin development that introduces high levels of hardness, chemical resistance, hydrolytic stability, and resistance to thermal degradation. This combination means outstanding toughness and durability opportunities for coatings.

The Aptalon polyamide technology is unique in its ability to be adaptable, essentially meaning it can deliver premium performance benefits in many types of coating systems. The first Aptalon products in the portfolio are water-borne polyurethane dispersions targeted for protective coatings for wood and metal substrates. Because of Aptalon’s adaptability, polyurethane dispersions can be designed to enhance the properties of a wide range of additional substrates including plastic (parts/films), masonry, textile and other surfaces range of toughness, flexibility and resistance properties that require durable, high quality performance.

For wood surfaces, Aptalon polyamide self-crosslinking polyurethane dispersions are the new first choice for protection from the environment in flooring, furniture and exterior applications for one-component finishes. Aptalon polymers can be an integral part of tough, long lasting, beautiful wood finishes. Aptalon technology delivers core properties that enable wood coatings to be more durable, easy to use and contain less VOC’s.

For metal coating applications, Aptalon aliphatic polyurethane dispersions deliver tremendous chemical and alkali resistance when used in paints and coatings. Aptalon can also be used as a primary and co-blending resin in metal coating applications requiring high gloss, UV durability, and strong abrasion resistance. Exterior applications include topcoats for OEM equipment in agricultural and construction equipment (ACE), appliance, oil and gas, infrastructure, and commercial construction. Interior automotive applications include surface coatings that require soft feel and appeal as well as outstanding resistance to surface cleaners, sunscreens, and insect repellants.
