Synergists

Synergists are pigment derivatives that have very strong affinity for certain pigment types. They anchor to a particle surface to provide functionality to enhance the adsorption of polymeric dispersing agents. The combination of a pigment synergist and dispersant enables the production of highly loaded, highly stable and broadly compatible dispersions for otherwise difficult-to-disperse pigments for use in a wide range of applications.

Lubrizol’s portfolio of Solsperse™ Hyperdispersants also includes synergist technology that offers a successful approach for anchoring to the particle surface in pigments that are challenging to disperse. Lubrizol Solsperse™ pigment synergists improve the performance of the polymeric Solsperse and Solplus Hyperdispersants, providing higher millbase pigment loading through reduced millbase viscosity, improved rheology, better pigment stabilization and increased tinctorial properties.

Our synergists and dispersant technology together facilitate the production of sterically stabilized dispersions with higher solids content, lower viscosity, and improved viscosity and particle size stability compared to dispersions made using grind resins or lower molecular weight dispersants.

Typical Applications

Synergists are used in combination with polymeric Solsperse™ and Solplus™ Hyperdispersants in coatings, paints, inks and plastic applications.
