Clean Beauty, Clean Actions

On the northeast coast of Spain lies the natural park Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, a large wetland created by the confluence of two major rivers. It’s a unique ecosystem that is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species.

LLS Beauty sponsors and works with a local nonprofit organization called APNAE that is dedicated to preserving the biodiversity of this region. Among other activities, LLS Beauty employees have helped APNAE convert abandoned houses into refuges for local animal species.

Inspired by the beauty of the watering holes of this region and the medicinal and cosmetic applications of clays and muds, LLS Beauty sought to leverage the benefits of specific microorganisms found in clays to create sustainable clay-like ingredients without harming or depleting natural reserves.

Uniclay™ biotech ingredient is a fermentation-derived extract of Bacillus sp. isolated from this region to bring the benefits of clay treatments to consumers. The microorganism was isolated from clays near the natural park using strict sustainable practices. It is a rich source of secondary metabolites with different properties, such as antioxidant, antifungal or antibacterial, that allow the bacterium to survive in its natural environment.

Obtained through biotechnology by fermentation, Uniclay™ biotech ingredient brings sustainability and efficacy to multiple skin types formulations for cleaner, smoother and more beautiful skin while improving the user’s sense of well-being.

In 2020, Uniclay™ biotech ingredient won the BSB Innovation Award in the natural category. To learn more about this ingredient, click here.
