Lubrizol Life Science-Beauty is committed to supporting the restoration and preservation of the biodiversity of the eastern Pyrenees Mountains in Catalonia, Spain, by partnering with Paisatges Vius (Living Landscapes), a Catalonian environmental group.
A waterfall in these mountains is where LLS – Beauty found the microorganism that is the source for Lumicease™ blue ingredient, Exiguobacterium sp., one of the most radiation-resistant microorganisms. This remarkable product minimizes the main signs of photoaging by preparing the skin for exposure to solar and blue light, while also protecting it during exposure and repairing light-induced damage.
Lumicease™ blue ingredient is a ferment extract obtained through sustainable bioprocesses. The microorganism was extracted without environmental damage and the resulting ingredient is produced without additional harvesting from nature. In addition, we also donate a percentage of Lumicease™ blue ingredient sales to Paisatges Vius to support its continued efforts to preserve the region’s natural assets and endangered species, including the aquatic environment where the microorganism was found and isolated.
Furthermore, LLS Beauty volunteers have labored alongside Paisatges Vius workers to restore the health and biodiversity of l’Estany del Coll, an environmentally important lake in the region.
This work is part of Lubrizol’s sustainability policy, part of which calls for helping the local communities from which we extract resources.
