Supporting a Sustainable Future with Biotechnology

As consumers think more about how to support sustainability through their purchases, many are demanding it from the brands they regularly buy.

At Lubrizol, we’ve found biotechnology to be an ideal solution for the beauty industry. Our proprietary bio-based technologies follow the best production practices in creating active ingredients with excellent sustainability profiles.

A single drop of water from a specific environment is enough to isolate a microorganism, grow it in our laboratories and then reproduce it without having to harvest from nature. The ingredients are also non-GMO, nontoxic and biodegradable.

For example, three of our biotechnology-based ingredients include:

  • Brighlette™ marine ingredient – Extract obtained from a marine microorganism isolated from the southwest coast of the Tenerife island, Spain. Brighlette™ marine ingredient acts on multiple stages of the pigmentation process to consistently reduce the deposition of melanin in the epidermis. As a result, it enhances skin radiance and targets hyperpigmented spots to increase overall evenness.
  • Eyedeline™ marine ingredient – Extract obtained from the microorganism E. crustaceum isolated in Playa Paraíso, a rocky beach in Tenerife, Spain. Eyedeline™ marine ingredient provides complete care of the eye contour area by reducing fluid extravasation and increasing the degradation of bilirubin. Moreover, it boosts collagen and elastin synthesis and decreases the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), for a brighter and younger look.
  • Hyadisine® marine ingredient – Exopolysaccharide obtained by fermentation of a marine bacterial strain that belongs to Pseudoalteromonas sp. Hyadisine® marine ingredient is rich in glucuronic acid, a monosaccharide of hyaluronic acid, with a high water-retaining capacity, conferring similar cosmetic benefits on the skin.
Each has also met the highest standards for natural ingredients, receiving COSMOS certification. To learn more about how these and other LLS active ingredients can benefit your brand, contact our team.
