2020 Trends - Cleansers of the Future

Posted by Lindsay Lipp on 03/12/2020

As we head into Q2 of 2020, the Lubrizol Life Science – Beauty team has identified three trends in skin cleansers that we predicted to be popular going into the year and continue to show signs of growth. Trends and examples of LLS ingredients, products and techniques that may support your brand’s cleanser development for hair, face and body include:

  • Mild - Consumers are gravitating toward milder cleansers, especially those that are microbiome-friendly and sulfate-free.
    • Fensebiome™ peptide – A holistic peptide approach toward a double barrier function reinforcement to restore vulnerable skin to its original condition. Promotes microbiota balance, helping to boost the skin’s own defense system.

  • Sustainable - Cleansers that promote healthy skin while helping preserve the environment are in demand.
    • Phenobio™ subcritical water technology - A sustainable process of extracting botanical biomass with far less environmental impact than conventional methods. Enables natural formulations with a minimal footprint.

  • Water Conscious - Micellar waters, oil-based cleansers and solid/waterless formats are also in demand as water becomes a scarce resource around the world.
    • Micellar Water Shampoo – Hot tools and hair color can be tough on hair. A mild, gentle cleansing solution is a welcome relief. LLS’s white micellar water cleanser gently draws out impurities without drying out hair.
