Lubrizol Mexico Helps the Three Wise Men

In Mexico, we celebrate this wonderful tradition of gift-giving by the Three Wise Men. The night of January 5, the kids leave a letter at their Christmas tree mentioning how well they behaved during the previous year and asking for special gifts. Then they go to bed and hope that when they wake up the Three Wise Men had visited them and left the requested gifts under the tree. Unfortunately, for the kids with chronic diseases staying at the hospital, with monthly treatments or with parents in terminal phases, the Three Wise Men cannot afford to bring them gifts. But there are several organizations that collect and deliver toys for them.

That is why this past December, Lubrizol Mexico employees and their families collected about 387 new toys to donate to an association called "Con Ganas de Vivir," which has a program for delivering gifts to kids at hospitals and in a distribution area where the kids can pick up their toys. This is the second year that Lubrizol Mexico has had the opportunity to participate.

This time we were able to help children facing any of the following situations:

  • Cancer patients in outpatient treatment
  • Patients that wake in the hospital on January 6, 2014
  • Children of cancer patients who are being treated
  • Children of cancer patients who died in previous years

The goal was to deliver about 1,500 packages to the same number of children by donating:

  • New toys
  • Sporting goods
  • Candies
  • Plastic bags
  • Balloons
  • Time through volunteering

Our Lubrizol Mexico integration team organized the activity, but the toys were donated by all employees. For people who had the opportunity to volunteer, it was a unique experience since they could be with the hospitalized children and bring some joy to them. We want to improve not only as a working team but as a community!
