Energy and Water Management in Mind

Since February 2014, Lubrizol’s site at Vadodara has been using treated waste water from the Effluent Treatment Plant for watering the lawn and the trees. Before then, fresh water from the tube-well had been used. This simple measure has led to a reduction of fresh water consumption of 30.000 liters per day. Employees at Vadodara have even noticed that the grass looks greener since the switch!  More...

No-Waste Surfactant Plants

Lubrizol’s surfactant plants in Bowling Green and Paso Robles have initiated a process for repurposing scrap material during product change-over. Processing one particular product and then switching to another can result in a lot of material waste. So, instead of disposing of the scrap, these plants now sell the excess to car washes for use in their soaps. Known for their foam-boosting properties in a variety of consumer products, surfactants are also great for industrial use.

Manufacturing Without Waste

The process of making methyl glucoside for Lubrizol’s naturally-derived product line requires methanol in order to perfect the formula. There is a growing trend in the industry for mild cleansing products for bath and shower so this is an important product for Lubrizol. The plant in Spartanburg discovered a way to eliminate waste by repurposing the methanol as a by-product in windshield washer fluid. The excess methanol is sold to major manufacturers of windshield washer fluid and not a drop goes to waste. This has become a best-practice in the processing of a key product line.
