Making an Impact in Our Communities : Lubrizol’s Ongoing Commitment to Sustainability

Posted by Mathilde Allegre on 05/23/2023

At Lubrizol, we’re dedicated to ensuring success not only within our organization but also in our communities around the world. We continue working on a more sustainable future by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water usage across our global footprint and other environmental initiatives. But did you know Lubrizol is also heavily engaged in activities in the communities where we live and work?

Our Social Responsibility pillar (as part of our ESG initiative) looks at our commitment to protect and engage our employees and support the communities we call home. This pillar supports workplace health, safety, and security, along with our inclusion, diversity, and equality programs that contribute to our company’s culture. It also drives our investments and our desire to make a positive impact in our community.

In 2028, Lubrizol will celebrate its 100th anniversary. Our social responsibility goal by that year is to:

  • Give at least $20,280,000 to organizations aligned with our community investment priorities.
  • Assist at least 2,028,000 individuals globally through engagement activities.
  • Volunteer at least 80,000 employee hours globally.

Lubrizol team members from around the world continue to step up to the plate to volunteer their time, money, and effort in our communities. Here are some examples of the work they are doing at Lubrizol Life Science sites:

  • In Belford Roxo, Brazil, Lubrizol’s Fire Brigade team worked with local firefighters when a vegetation fire erupted on the land in front of the Belford Roxo plant. The fire threatened neighboring houses, and the Fire Brigade team acted fast to successfully extinguish the fire.
  • Employees in Calvert City, Kentucky, conducted a food drive for a local community kitchen to assist area families.
  • The team in Mexico City, Mexico, donated toys to local children for Three Kings Day. They also donated school supplies, tools for an on-site garden, and paint to help refresh the look of waste containers at a nearby school.

We also recognize the importance of supporting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) opportunities for students. Our team in our LLS site in  Spain hosted an International Day of Women and Girls event called #100tífiques. #100tífiques gathered more than 570 women researchers who teach STEM lessons to 40,000 students ages 11-13 from schools in the Catalonia region. 2023 marked Lubrizol’s third year participating in this event, with nine of our scientists involved in #100tífiques.
