December 12, 2022

Lubrizol Advanced Materials’ CPVC Piping Systems business has updated its FBC™ System Compatible Program with changes to the Compatible Products, Incompatible Products, and Other Chemical Compatible Products Lists in the last half of 2022.  These changes are outlined below.

Compatible Product List

Firestop Wraps Category

Product: Metacaulk Joint Strip

Manufacturer: RectorSeal

Product: FEWS Eco Wrap Strip

Manufacturer: Fischerwerke

Incompatible Products List

Fire Stopping Systems Category

  • Product: Firecode® Smoke-Sound Sealant
  • Manufacturer: USG
  • Compatibility Designation – 4*

*4 - These products have recommendations in their manufacturer’s published literature not to use them with CPVC. This may not necessarily reflect their compatibility status. They are nevertheless listed here because, as reported by the manufacturer, they should not be used with CPVC.

Other Chemical Compatibility Topics List:

New Topic:

Gases or Fumes in the Installation Space

CPVC is resistant to breathable air containing potentially corrosive fumes or gases such as bleach, chlorine, ammonia, and ozone.  Examples of such applications where CPVC can safely be used include pool and spa rooms containing bleach or chlorine vapors, farming or animal husbandry buildings containing ammonia vapors, rooms containing ozone from engines or electrical motors, and mechanical or storage rooms containing vapors from chemicals such as corrosion inhibitors, cleaners, disinfectants, or pool treatment chemicals.  If metal parts such as sprinkler heads or metal adapters will be installed in the affected area as well, the manufacturer(s) of those parts should be consulted regarding the resistance of the metal to the expected vapors.  For industrial applications involving these types of gases, consult the Corzan chemical resistance guide.  CPVC may not be resistant to other types of airborne chemicals such as greases and oils.  See also Grease and Cooking Oils category.

Updated Topic:

Plastic Pipe and Flexible Ducting – updated to include Polybutylene

ABS, PEX, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polybutylene and un-plasticized rigid PVC plastic pipes are not incompatible with CPVC.  Polyethylene, Polypropylene and aluminum flexible ducting is not incompatible with CPVC.  For insulated pipes and ducts, see also the Insulation topic.

THE LUBRIZOL FBC™ SYSTEM COMPATIBLE PROGRAM

Products qualify for the program by undergoing testing that demonstrates the product is compatible with FlowGuard Gold Pipe & Fittings, BlazeMaster Fire Protection Systems, and Corzan Industrial Systems and Products made with TempRite® Technology.

Manufacturers of the program's products are committed to maintaining necessary product quality and agree not to change the chemical composition of the product without advance written notice. If there is a change in the chemical composition, manufacturers must re-submit their products in order to be included in the FBC System Compatible Program. Manufacturers must also submit their products to periodic testing to ensure the products remain chemically compatible. Because CPVC products are made with base resins having different molecular weights and varying chlorine contents and compound additives, the FBC System Compatible Program can verify chemical compatibility of products made with Lubrizol's FlowGuard, BlazeMaster, and Corzan and Products made with TempRite® Technology with the ancillary products tested and added to the Lubrizol FBC™ System Compatible Program.

Products in the program display the FBC System Compatible mark on their labels. This mark quickly notifies installers that the product is chemically compatible with FlowGuard, BlazeMaster, and Corzan and Products made with TempRite® Technology. The FBC System Compatible Program is in active use in the United States, Canada, Mexico, 25 European countries, the United Arab Emirates, India and China.
