Specialty Monomers

AMPS® Specialty Monomers

Contributing to a better world by enabling polymer producers to manufacture unique, water-soluble polymers for use in a wide range of consumer and industrial products.

Our AMPS monomer1 technology was invented more than 30 years ago and is still the global leader today. Our exceptionally high level of product purity ensures consistent performance and optimum versatility in a wide range of water-soluble polymers.

Our state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and global supply and distribution network ensure timely supply and delivery of AMPS monomer in granular or liquid forms to our customers anywhere in the world. Technical and formulating support, complete product information—including critical health and safety information—are readily available to address your unique needs.

1 AMPS is an acronym for 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid.

Monomer: a molecule or chemical compound usually containing carbon and of relatively low molecular weight and simple structure - which is capable of conversion to polymers, synthetic resins or elastomers by combination with itself or with other similar molecules or compounds.

New Granulated Product

We now offer a granular form of AMPS monomer to replace the powder version of the product.

The major benefits of the granular form include:

  • Reduction of dust emissions in the air, resulting in better worker safety and reduced plant maintenance.
  • Little or no agglomeration, eliminating clumping and making it easy for customers to transfer.

Since granulation is a post-reaction step, the AMPS monomer chemistry will be unchanged, and customers will not need to re-qualify. The granular change affects only the acid form of AMPS monomer; we continue to offer the salt form in aqueous solutions.

AMPS monomer is incorporated into the creation of water-soluble and water-based polymers that are used in a wide range of applications, including:

  • Industrial water treatment
  • Oil field
  • Construction chemicals
  • Hydrogels for medical applications
  • Personal care products
  • Emulsion polymers
  • Detergents
  • Textile print pastes
  • Photographic film
  • Adhesives
  • Caulks & sealants
  • Thickeners
  • Architectural and industrial coatings
  • Paper coatings
  • Dental adhesives and etchants
