Viscosity Modifiers

VM Selection Tool for Multigrade Hydraulic Fluids

This tool is provided by Lubrizol to aid in the selection of viscosity modifiers while developing hydraulic fluid blends to meet your specifications. Users are asked to input base oil viscosities as well as desired viscosity index (VI) and ISO viscosity grade. The program then calculates the blends that meet those requirements using a range of Lubrizol viscosity modifiers.

Calculations are based on experimentally-determined thickening efficiency and shear stability test data. Variations in base oils and viscosity ranges can lead to minor deviations, so results are approximate. This tool is not a substitute for actual blending, and each formulation should be experimentally tested. Final adjustment of blends in base oil mixtures, including viscosity modifier treat rates, should be expected.
