The characteristic high water absorbing capacity of polymers containing AMPS monomer creates a soft, slippery feel on contact with the skin. Due to its hydrophilic nature, AMPS monomer contributes to the lubricity of the polymers.

AMPS monomer polymers in personal care products may also be used as thickeners, fixatives, humectants and used to improve the oxidative stability of other consumer products.
