APPLICATION USAGE

app_photo1Lubrizol’s polymers are highly efficient gel matrix formers for controlling drug release in tablets, capsules and multiparticulate systems. In many cases Lubrizol’s polymers have demonstrated slower drug release rates at lower concentrations than other commercially available excipients, enabling overall formulation cost savings and smaller tablet sizes. Additionally, tablet formulations using Carbopol® polymers have demonstrated excellent physical properties such as hardness and low friability over a wide range of compression forces.

Carbopol polymers are widely compatible with commonly used tablet ingredients and can be used alone or in combination with other extended release excipients (e.g. hypromellose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, sodium alginate) to achieve a desired release profile.

Carbopol polymers are available in both powder and granular forms, therefore they can be used in all types of tablet manufacturing processes. For example, powder Carbopol polymers can efficiently be used in a variety of granulation technologies. A free-flowing granular product, Carbopol® 71G NF polymer, is also available for use in direct compression processes. Also, Carbopol 71G NF polymer can be added extragranularly to improve the release performance of a formulation.

Lubrizol polymers are currently used or are being evaluated for use as taste masking agents, tablet binders, coating excipients and bioadhesive dosage forms for targeted drug delivery.
