Bulk Laxatives

APPLICATION USAGE

Noveon^® calcium polycarbophils are active pharmaceutical ingredients used in bulk laxative tablets. Calcium polycarbophil is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) as an over-the-counter treatment for constipation associated with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome. 

Calcium polycarbophil remains a non-bioadhesive salt in the mouth, partially acidifies to polycarbophil in the stomach and neutralizes and swells in the intestine.  The swollen polycarbophil then acts as a bulk laxative.

Two product grades are offered, a coarsely-milled grade for formulation of swallowable bulk laxative tablets/capsules and a finely-milled grade for formulation of chewable tablets or lozenges.
