Joseph W. Bauer is vice president and general counsel of The Lubrizol Corporation. He joined Lubrizol in 1985 to manage the company’s litigation matters. In 1991, he was named general counsel and was elected as an officer in 1992. Since then, he has been responsible for managing the legal affairs of Lubrizol and its wholly owned subsidiaries and affiliates around the world. Prior to joining Lubrizol, Mr. Bauer practiced law with Jones Day from 1981-1985.

Mr. Bauer holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo. He is a member of the Council of Chief Legal Officers of The Conference Board, the General Counsels Committee of the National Center for State Courts, the Chemical Industry General Counsel Roundtable and the Advisory Board of the Canada-US Law Institute. He is a trustee of Providence House, a Cleveland crisis nursery for infants and young children.
