Metalworking Packages

Lubrizol-corp-Industrial-Metalworking-Additives-029Lubrizol’s metalworking packages are used to formulate soluble oil, semi-synthetic, and full synthetic metalworking fluid concentrates for metal removal, metal forming, and other water-extendable lubricant applications. These products are synergistic combinations of performance chemistry that have been carefully balanced to provide the necessary features of emulsification, corrosion inhibition, and supplemental lubricity to the finished fluids.

Packages offer metalworking formulators a simple and consistent solution to the otherwise complex process of formulating water-extendable fluids. Basic metalworking fluid concentrates can be created by dilution of the package in the appropriate percentage of oil or water. More elaborate and unique performance can be achieved with additional additive chemistry in the final formulation.

Soluble Oil

Soluble oil packages are balanced combinations of emulsifier chemistry designed primarily for the production of metalworking fluid concentrates that form stable macro-emulsions when diluted with water at the manufacturing site. Additional performance chemistry—such as extreme pressure additives, lubricity enhancers, anti-microbial agents, supplemental corrosion inhibitors, and defoamers—are often incorporated in the final formulation to achieve the desired performance for specific applications. Soluble oil packages are also commonly used as primary or secondary emulsifiers in more complex semi-synthetic micro-emulsion formulations.

Semi-Synthetic

Lubrizol-corp-Industrial-Metalworking-Additives-042Semi-synthetic packages are complex formulations designed for further dilution in water and/or oil to provide a ready-for-market micro-emulsion metalworking fluid concentrate. These products are balanced combinations of emulsifier systems, mineral oil, corrosion inhibitors, and lubricity enhancers that form micro-emulsions when diluted in water. Depending on specific product features and end-use applications, supplemental additives may or may not be incorporated in the final formulation. Many semi-synthetic packages can also be used in macro-emulsion soluble oil fluid formulations, offering higher levels of operating cleanliness, alkalinity, and sump life than traditional soluble oil chemistry.

Synthetic

Synthetic packages are complex formulations designed for further dilution in water to provide a ready-for-market full synthetic metalworking fluid concentrate. These products are balanced combinations of corrosion inhibitors, lubricity enhancers, and reserve alkalinity agents which yield finished fluids that are free of petroleum oil. Depending on specific product features and end-use applications, supplemental additives may or may not be incorporated in the final formulation.
