High Moisture Vapor Transmission
Estane® Engineered Polymers have a wide range of high moisture vapor transmission (HMVT) properties to meet demanding requirements in the apparel and medical wound care market. This technology is unique because in film or coated form, the material becomes a monolithic barrier which keeps water out but still allows moisture vapor to move freely through activated diffusion.
Estane's HMVT technology combines the toughness, flexibility, and elastomeric properties of a thin film with protective barrier properties while providing comfort through moisture vapor transmission. The unique chemistry allows end users to dial in the breathability needed for a specific application. Our engineered polymers range from moderately breathable, 350 g/m2/24hrs* MVT, to a highly breathable 760 g/m2/24hrs* HMVT.
In apparel applications, Estane's HMVT films provide high breathability with a solid barrier to water and wind. The need for performance is balanced with comfort for the wearer. These polymers combine a tough breathable barrier with a quiet and soft hand, stretch for comfortable movement, and good low-temperature flexibility for extreme conditions.
Estane Engineered Polymers for HMVT are available down to 1-mil thick and in hardnesses from 70 to 90 Shore A. These polyether-based products are inherently water resistant and offer strong durability to withstand washing cycles. They also deliver low-temperature flexibility, puncture resistance, and no stiffness. Key breathable film grades are Estane 58237 and 58245 TPU, both with excellent vapor transmission values. The newest grade, Estane MVT 70AT3 TPU, offers less swelling for garment applications.

For Apparel Applications
Estane HMVT films provide high breathability with a solid barrier to water and wind. In apparel applications the need for performance must be balanced with comfort for the wearer. Estane's HMVT technology combines a tough breathable barrier with a quiet and soft hand, stretch for comfort of movement and good low temperature flexibility for those extreme conditions outerwear can see.
For Industrial Applications
Estane Engineered Polymers combine the traditional strength with the added value of a breathable (HMVT) barrier. In Building, Construction and Industrial Applications the issues associated with a need for better Moisture Vapor Transmission but maintaining a water/liquid barrier is becoming more prevalent. Estane MVT resins can provide the right mix of controlled MVT and barrier along with good weathering properties and fungus resistance.
