Easy-to-Extrude (ETE)
The Easy-to-Extrude (ETE) product line for Estane® Engineered Polymers consists of both polyether- and polyester-based starting at 50 Shore D. These products not only overcome the typical manufacturing problems associated with hard-grade extrusion, but also offer significant cost savings and performance advantages. They provide the performance capability to replace more expensive competitive materials such as PA11, PA12, COPE, or even COPA.
Typically, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) above 50 Shore D are difficult to process on a commercial scale due to their narrow melt range, fast crystallization and setup, and their tendency to freeze within the extruder. They typically can’t run long cycles and production parts usually have visual defects.
The melt stability of Estane ETE TPUs is unique when compared to traditional TPUs. Pellets are melted and maintained at a stable viscosity without the expected crystallized chunks, gels, or flushing problems that occur during periodic line stoppages. Extrusion can be interrupted with material in the barrel for up to 25 min., with no restart problems or product defects.
Estane ETE TPU grades are available in hardnesses ranging from 49 to 75 Shore D. The materials offer faster processability, better physical properties and chemical resistance, and higher burst pressure for hose and tubing. Applications include air-powered tools, robotics, garden hoses, pneumatic hoists, automated equipment, and food processing equipment.
