CPVC Piping Systems

Are Coated Steel and CPVC Compatible? NFSA Summarizes

NFSA

FM Approvals, a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), has approved evaluated internally coated steel for use with CPVC fire sprinkler systems. Certifications like this, from one of the foremost testing and approval laboratories in the fire protection industry, give building professionals greater confidence in combined CPVC and steel systems, also referred to as hybrid systems.

Recent changes in NFPA 13 and 13R standards now leave specific use conditions of non-metallic piping with steel piping up to manufacturers and Listing laboratories to determine—making this FM certification even more significant.

To answer other questions you might have about the compatibility of internally coated steel pipe and CPVC systems, read “Compatibility of Non-metallic Pipe,” published by NFSA in December 2012.
