Why Specify Corzan® CPVC?

With metallic piping systems, corrosion is an ongoing problem that can lead to process leaks, flow restrictions and, ultimately, premature failures.  But Corzan™ Industrial Systems, made from durable chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), are chemically inert to most mineral acids, bases and salts, as well as aliphatic hydrocarbons.  In addition, these systems are not subject to galvanic corrosion.  As a result, Corzan Industrial Systems can replace metallic piping in many applications -- from metal finishing and chemical processing to water and waste treatment and offshore/marine applications -- and provide longer service life, lower maintenance costs, and help ensure environmental compliance.  Corzan Industrial Systems also compare favorably with non-metallic industrial piping options, offering superior strength and durability to meet the pressure requirements of process applications, even at elevated temperatures.

The Corzan HP Advantage 

For added peace of mind, there is also Corzan HP pipe and fittings.  Corzan HP pipe has been tested and certified by NSF International as having a pressure rating that’s 25 percent higher than standard CPVC at 180°F (82°C).  When used in combination with Corzan HP fittings, which offer the same pressure rating as the pipe, industrial plants are able to create the only fully pressure rated Schedule 40/80 piping system on the market.

Corzan HP fittings demonstrate improved creep resistance and the ability to better withstand long-term, high-temperature hydrostatic pressure over non-Corzan CPVC fittings.  As a result, Corzan HP fittings last four times longer than those molded with non-Corzan CPVC compounds when pressured tested at 180°F (82°C) at 551 psi.

In addition,  Corzan HP compound, which is used to manufacture Corzan HP pipe, meets the higher cell class rating of 24448 as defined by ASTM D1784.   Lubrizol is the first and, to date, the only manufacturer of compounds to be certified by NSF as achieving the higher cell class rating.  Standard CPVC has a cell class rating of 23447.  That means Corzan HP compound can withstand higher impact and HDT rating.  In fact, Corzan HP pipe compound exhibits three times the impact strength of standard CPVC, resulting in fewer breaks and fractures, a lower scrap rate and easier cutting. The higher cell class additionally means a higher heat distortion temperature of 230°F compared to 212°F for standard CPVC. This translates into a lower probability of sagging or bending.
