PowerZol® 9543 Complete Fuel System Cleaner
Gasoline Direct Injection
Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) is an engine design where fuel is injected (directly) into the cylinders, not mixed with air in the inlet manifold or inlet ports before being drawn into the cylinders. Steady growth in GDI applications will continue as automakers increasingly leverage this technology into their engine programs for higher power output and improved fuel economy.
GDI injector fouling is more severe, with a higher additive appetite, than comparable Port Fuel injectors. Smaller GDI deposits have a greater impact on vehicle performance and can lead to:
- Poor driveability
- Loss of power
- Lowered fuel economy
- Decreased acceleration
- Failing an emissions test
- Inability to start in cold temperatures
Enhanced Product Claims
New Lubrizol test data is now available that further supports the superior performance of PowerZol® 9543 and invites some bold claims for GDI engines.
GDI engine clean-up using Lubrizol 9543 at 4300ppm (v/v) returned fouled injectors to 98% flow.
That’s in addition to all the other benefits that make Lubrizol 9543 the most effective one-tank complete fuel system cleaner available.
- PFI clean-up. Returned fouled injectors to 98% flow in just one tank.
- IVD clean-up. Cleaned 87%-91% of intake valve deposits.
- CCD clean-up. Removed up 63% of the CCD thickness.
In addition, lab and field tests have shown significant results improving power restoration, fuel injector flow, and fuel efficiency.
Injector Fouling
GDI injector fouling is more severe, with a higher additive appetite, than a comparable PFI injector. High S, high olefin fuels that foul PFI injectors are also pro-fouling to GDI injectors. Soak periods add severity to GDI injector fouling.
Clean-up
The Lubrizol clean-up additive was effective in cleaning up GDI injectors. Average flow across 4 injectors recovered to 99.1% flow.
- Achieved approximately 5% flow restriction on the most severely affected injector.
- Clean up using 9543 at 4300ppm(v/v) in the BU fuel improved the flow to 98% on the most severely affected injector (from 95.5% flow after BU to 97.7% flow after CU).
- An average flow improvement of 2.3% (from 96.8% to 99.1%) was observed with PowerZol 9543 across all 4 injectors.
